Villy Doctor is a psychologist, educationist and above all a philanthropist who has dedicated her life to the upliftment of the disadvantaged through her Satyavati Spiritual Foundation and Light of Life Trust.
Born in Mumbai on 25th August 1951, Villy Doctor is a St. Xavier’s College graduate and has a Masters in Psychology from Mumbai University. She also worked on a doctorate on ‘Psycho-biological changes that take place through meditation’ and has published several papers on the subject.
Villy Doctor began her career as a senior lecturer at St. Xavier’s College. She was also visiting faculty at Nirmala Niketan and went on to head the Psychology Department at Sophia College for over a decade. Villy Doctor has guided several post-graduate students in the fields of consumer behaviour research and social work.
Her work in the field of consumer behaviour led to the launch of Ormax Consultants which even today is a leading qualitative market research company and remains Villy Doctor’s only source of remuneration.
During her time as an educator she also ran a free counselling and vocational guidance centre called Psych Aid in Mumbai with the objective of helping people overcome drug addiction, alcoholism and problems relating to emotional stress. In the course of this work with thousands of people, she became acutely aware of the positive effects of meditation on its practitioners.
In the mid-80s Villy Doctor met her own meditation guru Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, who taught her a technique of meditation that was found in various ancient scriptures. She found that time and time again, the practice of meditation brought about tremendous relief, and with regular meditation people were able to better cope with their problems. This led her to study the various schools of meditation in the quest to create a simple technique that could be easily adopted by a vast number of people.
One of the greatest contributions Villy Doctor has made in this field is the development and perfection of a unique meditation technique that can be practiced by everyone irrespective of their age, gender or religious beliefs – Satya Meditation.
Satya Meditation is an extremely simple, scientific meditation technique, developed and perfected by Villy Doctor with the aim to gift its practitioners with an instant connection to the universal energy. Unlike other meditation techniques that may profess a long, difficult journey to “enlightenment”, the Satya Meditation technique is easy to understand and practice. Read more about the technique here.
In 2002 she set up the non-profit organisation Light of Life Trust with a vision to develop rural, underprivileged communities through a holistic approach to education, empowerment and employability. The Trust has won global accolades for its work including the NGO Leadership & Excellence Award by the World Federation of CSR Professionals. A testimony to Villy Doctor’s significant work and the success of Light of Life Trust is that she was the Highest Individual Fundraiser at the 2016 Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon raising to further the work of The Trust.
Over the past three decades, Villy Doctor has continued to work selflessly and tirelessly towards improving the living conditions of underprivileged children, women and senior citizens; and to spread the message of meditation far and wide. Perhaps what describes her best is that she is an enigmatic lady with unconditional love and compassion for all. She has generously shared her knowledge with no compensation or other expectation in return.
Villy Doctor is fondly called ‘Ma’ or ‘Mother’ by all those whose lives she has touched. Everyone who comes in contact with her feels transformed in more ways than they ever experienced before and have in turn selflessly given of themselves to help promote the cause of Villy Doctor’s humanitarian projects. Both Light of Life Trust and Satyavati Spiritual Foundation have a robust body of volunteers trained by Villy Doctor herself.
As it is the mission of the Foundation to spread the benefits of meditation as widely as possible, all the meditation and self-healing classes and counselling sessions, conducted by Villy Doctor and her team of trained volunteers are offered freely. There are no charges for the courses and no person involved in its teaching receives any material remuneration. All expenses are met by donations from people who have experienced the benefits of Satya Meditation and wish to give others the opportunity to benefit from it also.
